부활, 죽음을 이기고 살아나셨습니다
사도행전 2:22-24, 32

지난 목요일과 금요일 캐나다 토론토에서는 눈과 얼음비가 내렸습니다. 마치 겨울이 다시 온 것처럼 보였습니다. 몇년 전 얼음비가 와서 나무들이 부러지고 정전이 되었던 때가 떠오릅니다. 그러나 오늘 우리는 화창하고 따뜻한 날씨 속에서 부활절 예배를 드리고 있습니다. 마치 자연의 모든 생명들이 부활을 증언하고 있는 것처럼 보입니다. 예수께서 십자가에 처형당하셨을 때, 제자들은 모두 예수님 곁을 떠났습니다. 그들은 모든 것이 끝났다고 생각했습니다. 예수님이 가지셨던 열정과 헌신이 죽음과 함께 끝났다고 생각했습니다. 죽음이 모든 것을 무효화시킨다고 생각했습니다. 그러나 시간이 지나면서 점점 많은 사람들이 외치기 시작했습니다. “우리가 주님을 보았습니다. 우리가 길을 걸어갈 때 주님께서 나타나셨습니다. 우리가 떡과 잔을 나눌 때 주님께서 나타나셨습니다. 우리가 고기를 낚을 때 주님께서 나타나셨습니다.” 그들은 또 이렇게 외쳤습니다. “죽음이 주님을 가둘 수 없었습니다.” 우리는 죽음이 모든 것의 끝이라고 생각합니다. 이 세상의 어떤 것도 죽음을 막을 수 없다고 생각합니다. 그래서 우리들은 죽음을 무서워합니다. 죽음은 우리 사이를 가로막아서 사랑하는 사람을 더 이상 볼 수 없도록 만듭니다. 사랑하는 사람이 죽으면 사랑하는 사람을 만질 수도 없고 볼 수도 없습니다.
하지만 죽음의 힘은 거기까지입니다. 사랑하는 사람을 볼 수 없지만 사랑하는 사람을 잊게 할 수는 없습니다. 죽음의 힘이 아무리 강해도 뜨거웠던 사랑의 힘을 막을 수는 없습니다. 두 눈으로는 볼 수 없지만 마음의 눈으로는 볼 수 있습니다. 두 눈으로는 볼 수 없지만 영적인 눈으로는 볼 수 있습니다. 제자들은 죽음이 우리 주님을 가로막을 수 없었다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 주님의 사랑과 열정이 죽음보다 더 크다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 우리 주님께서 보여주셨던 사랑의 힘, 생명의 힘이 너무 강해서 죽음이 이를 막을 수 없었다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 부활하신 주님께서 환상을 통해서, 말씀을 통해서, 떡과 잔을 통해서, 우리에게 나타나셨음을 깨달았습니다. 진실로 생명이 죽음보다 강하고 정의가 죽음보다 강합니다. 사랑이 죽음보다 강하고 진리가 죽음보다 강합니다. 사랑하는 성도 여러분, 빌라도도 죽었고 악한 권력자들도 다 죽었지만 우리 주님은 지금도 살아 계심을 믿으시기 바랍니다. 생명이 죽음보다 강합니다. 진리가 죽음보다 강합니다. 부활의 주님을 바라보며 위로와 용기를 얻으시는 성도님들 되시기를 바랍니다. 오늘 우리들은 저 옛날 제자들이 말했던 것처럼 이렇게 고백하며 부활을 기뻐합니다. 우리 주님께서 사망권세를 이기시고 부활하셨습니다! 우리 주님께서 우리들에게 나타나셨습니다! 죽음이 주님을 가둘 수 없었습니다! “죽음아, 너의 승리가 어디에 있느냐? 죽음아 너의 독침이 어디에 있느냐? 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통하여 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 우리는 감사를 드립니다. 그러므로 나의 사랑하는 형제 자매 여러분, 굳게 서서 흔들리지 말고, 주님의 일을 더욱 많이 하십시오. 여러분이 아는대로 여러분의 수고가 주님 안에서 헛되지 않을 것입니다.“ 아멘.
Death Could not hold the Lord
Acts 2:22-24, 32
Last Thursday and Friday, we saw snow and freezing rain. We thought that winter is coming back. But today we see that everything is gone. All the nature seems to say that is the Easter! When Jesus was crucified on the cross, all of his followers ran away. They thought that everything is over. They thought that all the passion and vision of Jesus ended with nothing. They thought that death makes everything nothing, useless, and void. But as time passed, more and more people began to say, “Christ is risen! We have seen the Lord! When we walk down the road, when we share the bread and the cup, we have seen the Lord! When we catch the fish again, we have seen the Lord! The Lord revealed himself to us, when we gathered again.” They also said, "Death could not contain the Lord! Death could not hold the Lord!" We think that death is the end of everything. We think that nothing in the world can block death. So we are afraid of death, since it seems to invalidate everything we cherish. We cannot see and touch anymore when our beloved died or even was killed. Death separates us physically from our beloved.
But the followers of Jesus had witnessed resurrection and realized that God had raised Jesus from the dead. As Peter said in today's scripture, God made death powerless. God took away the power of death. Those who witnessed the resurrection of Jesus said that Jesus’s passion and vision were so powerful and real that even death could not block Jesus’s resurrection. Today's scripture shows that love is bigger than death. Life is bigger than death. Truth and justice is bigger than death. As the disciples said long time ago, today we boldly say, we have seen the Lord! death could not hold the Lord! “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? Thanks be to God! God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” Amen.
