성탄 주일, 희망의 노래
누가복음 1:46 - 55

대림절 네번째 주일, 성탄 주일을 맞아 우리는 기쁨과 희망을 노래합니다. 오늘은 노래하는 날이요 찬양하는 날입니다. 성탄이 있기 때문에 우리는 절망과 탄식이 가득찬 이 세상에서 희망을 노래할 수 있습니다. 성경에는 성탄을 노래하는 찬양의 이야기가 가득합니다. 천사들이 찬양을 했고 요셉과 마리아가 찬양을 했습니다. 안나와 시므온 선지자가 찬양을 했고, 동방박사와 목자들이 찬양을 했습니다. 하늘의 별들과 마굿간의 동물들이 찬양을 했습니다. 우리가 기쁨과 희망의 노래를 부를 수 있는 것은 우리가 홀로가 아니기 때문이며 하나님께서 우리와 함께 하시기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 우리를 찾아오셨습니다. 우리를 포기하지 않으시고 우리를 붙들기 위해서 찾아오셨습니다. 고통많은 이 세상을 살리기 위해서 찾아오셨습니다. 연약한 자들과 함께 하기 위해서 연약한 아기 예수로 찾아오셨습니다. 기쁨과 희망이 없는 인생은 무력하고 절망적입니다. 우리를 찾아오시는 성탄의 은혜가 없었다면 우리의 삶은 절망적인 인생이 되었을 것입니다. 고통/비극/폭력/절망이 가득 찬 세상을 볼 때 기쁨과 희망은 보이지 않습니다. 그러나 우리가 사랑의 하나님을 바라볼 때, 우리를 구원하기 위해 낮은 곳으로 내려오시는 하나님을 바라볼 때 우리는 기쁨과 희망의 노래를 부를 수 있습니다.
“내 영혼이 주님을 찬양하며 내 마음이 구주 하나님을 좋아함은 주님께서 이 여종의 비천함을 보살펴 주셨기 때문입니다. 이제부터는 모든 세대가 나를 행복하다 할 것입니다.... 주님은 제왕들을 왕좌에서 끌어내리시고 비천한 사람들을 높이셨습니다. 주린 사람들을 좋은 것으로 배부르게 하시고 부한 사람들을 빈손으로 떠나보내셨습니다.” 오늘 우리는 어머니와 아기, 천사와 목자의 이야기, 사랑과 놀라움, 기쁨과 희망이 가득 찬 이야기를 노래합니다. 우리는 이 이야기가 진실하며 이 이야기 속에 새로운 희망이 있음을 믿습니다. 마리아가 노래한 것처럼, 비천한 자가 높임받고 굶주린 자가 배부르게 되는 날이 오기를 기다립니다. 우리가 부르는 성탄 캐롤이 세상 멀리 퍼져서 고통과 절망 가운데 있는 이들에게 기쁨과 희망이 되기를 소망합니다. 소망의 촛불을 키면 킬수록, 기쁨의 노래를 부르면 부를수록, 어둠과 절망은 사라지게 될 것입니다. 노래를 부르면 절망이 물러갑니다. 노래가 어둠을 이깁니다. 빛이 어둠을 이길 수 없습니다. 사랑하는 성도 여러분, 마리아처럼 희망의 노래를 부르십시오. 여러분은 홀로가 아닙니다. 주님께서 우리와 함께 하기 위해서 우리를 찾아오셨습니다. 기쁨과 희망의 노래가 여러분 위에 함께 하기를 빕니다. 아멘.
On this Christmas Sunday, we sing joy and hope. Today we sing loud saying "we are not alone, God is coming to be with us and to save us." As angels and shepherds sang the birth of Jesus long time ago, today we sing loud with joy and hope. Life without joy is overwhelming, overburdened, and oppressive. We sing not because we can make it, but because we are not abandoned. God holds us and brings us joy no matter how bad and tragic we are. Our joy and hope do not come from this world where trouble, tragedy, violence, and despair take place every day. Our joy and hope come from God of love who is willing to come down to us. The more and more we are in troubles, the more and more we sing joy and hope.
Today we hear Mary sing. Out of despair and tragedy, Mary sang hope and change for the new world. "with all my heart I praise the Lord, and I am glad because of God my Savior. You cares for me, your humble servant. From now on, all people will say God has blessed me. God All-Powerful has done great things for me, and your name is holy. You always shows mercy to everyone who worships you. You drags strong rulers from their thrones and puts humble people in places of power. You gives the hungry good things to eat, and sends the rich away with nothing." Today we sing the story of a mother and child, of angels and shepherds, a story full of love and surprise. We want it to be true, though we know that hope is precarious, as vulnerable as a newborn baby. We believe the movement finally comes that we have been waiting and yearning for. We believe the promises of joy to the world and peace on earth. We want our carols to be loud and strong. Today we sing of birth and babies within our hearts. Today we light candles, sing joy, yearn for your coming, knowing that for right now, darkness is bearable, darkness fades away soon, and the new day of hope comes to us. Amen.
